Omniture User Summit 2007

So I just got back from the 2007 Omniture Summit in Salt Lake City.? Well over 1000 people were in attendance with at least 80% of them being current Omniture customers.? The biggest news to come out of the Summit had to be Discover 2.0.? This product is absolutely amazing (if you’re a metrics geek).? Real-time segmentation and correlation of your entire metrics data warehouse.? I have yet to get any of my data into it and Omniture is pretty tight-lipped on cost (expect to pay an additional 20% of your current license for Discover), but I am foaming at the lips to start messing around with it.

Some other (random) highlights of the conference include:

  • Genesis, which integrates with dozens of partners including DoubleClick, TouchClarity and Responsys to help import and export data between each system
  • Turn on “participation” metrics within Omniture to allocate success metrics (revenue, page views, etc) to the pages leading up to the success event.
  • TouchClarity, recently acquired by Omniture, integrates with Genesis and allows you to do automated multi-variate testing.? They claimed to increase their clients ROI by 20-200% and that they will deliver at least 5x their cost.
  • HowStuffWorks.com gets 70% of the value of Omniture from Discover.
  • Another HSW.com insight was to use scorecards for various business owners.? Meaning, give product managers a few actionable metrics with suggestions on how to improve those metrics.
  • One issue I have with Discover is that specific referring URLs are not available in the tool.? You can get top level domains (i.e. Google.com), but not news.google.com.? I was told this functionality was on the way.
  • Check out Jason Burby and Shane Atchison’s book “Actionable Web Analytics” (available in May).? They have a great approach to valuing actions on your site.
