Google Reader Next
It looks like Google has been listening to me and plan to take Google Reader and the “Shared Items” feature (otherwise known as Linkblogs) to the next level. Several sites have pointed to a post describing a leaked internal video explaining what’s next for Google Reader. Some of the highlights include:
- “standard for feed publishers to tell aggegrators about changes in the feed”
- “The Reader team is going to integrate more social features”
- “Google is interested in allowing users to comment on items they share” (which Michael Arrington is very worried about)
- “Very soon, Reader will recommend feeds to the user”
I’m excited to see what they really come out with, but I still think publishers and developers outside of Google should figure out innovative uses for valuable Linkblog content.
