Because of this, the site was inconsistent and often had unintentional flaws in design due to novice website editors/tools.

To solve this, we put the site on WordPress and leveraged custom post types for the calendar and alerts and created simple flags for them to highlight important content (events, blog posts, alerts) at the top of their homepage.

Now that the site is on WordPress, their volunteer team can focus on content creation and not worry about accidentally breaking the site’s layout.

Nikki is a Realtor based in Massachusetts who had a website through a company offering templated sites to real estate professionals. For Nikki, the site lacked originality and did not offer her the flexibility she was looking for. We identified WordPress as an excellent base for her new site, sprinkled on a solid custom template and even threw in a blog, newsletter, contact form and full MLS search.

Nikki is extremely happy with her new site and blogs regularly. She even has the ability to edit her sidebar “Concierge” section where she highlights other professionals she trusts.

Pamela wanted to add a blog and promote her upcoming book, “Three Wishes: Our True Story of Good Friends, Crushing Heartbreak, and Astonishing Luck on Our Way to Love and Motherhood“. A static, 7-year old site wasn’t going to cut it.

Heavily leveraging the original design and sprinkling in some WordPress magic worked like a charm. The design stayed consistent for past visitors, but adding WordPress gave Pamela the flexibility to easily manage multiple content types/categories (Blogs and Articles) and the freedom to make updates and additions to her site whenever she feels the need. Add in a simple, yet compelling Flash intro by my friends at Overthink Designs and this site was a perfect match to Pamela’s needs.

A hosted version of WordPress seemed like the best fit and I began the process of converting his template, redirecting his traffic and RSS feeds and customizing WordPress to accommodate his potentially high traffic volumes.

To accomplish this, I integrated WordPress dynamic widgets, added WP Super Cache to help with page load, wrote redirects for all RSS feeds and added a Google site map for safe measure.

At the same time, Fake Steve also wanted to allow select bloggers to contribute to his site in a section called Rabid Fanboy. Leveraging some interesting post page rules I was able to segment these new authors from Fake Steve’s original content and create the experience he was looking for.

[Online Update: I'm new to the app, but I couldn't figure out how to easily add a link to a post. Obviously, that's a problem. So here's a link to the app store. Oh and did I mention the app is free?]
